I am an Assistant Professor of Information Communication Technology in University of Kentucky's School of Information Science. I position myself as a scholar of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with a focus on community information infrastructures. Specifically, I am interested in how these infrastructures can be designed, built, and used to advance the equity and justice-oriented goals of marginalized communities, however those communities may be defined. My work draws on scholarship from Science and Technology Studies (STS), HCI, and Design, and is grounded in qualitative research methods such as participant observation, interviews, focus groups, and design workshops. I am committed to balancing rigorous theoretical inquiry with the production of tangible, community-centered outcomes. I publish in a mix of HCI, design, and qualitative health journals like ACM’s Computer Supported Collaborative Work and Social Media (CSCW), ACM’s Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI), ACM’s Conference on Designing Interactive Systems (DIS), iConference, Participatory Design Conference (PDC), Design Issues, and Society for the Social Studies of Science (4S).
